A letter from Executive Director Camille Kesler

Camille Kesler RTADear friends,

Where did the summer go?  It is now officially National Back to School month.  So, as I start planning for my three daughters to go back to school, we’re also in full swing at RTA making plans and preparations for a very busy fall and winter – full of rebuilds and roof replacements for low-income homeowners in Atlanta.

In addition to being National Back to School month, August is also Water Quality Month, National Immunization Awareness Month, Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, Children’s Vision and Learning Month and Get Ready for Kindergarten Month.  Basically, it is ‘Be Safe & Get Ready’ month!  All of these important objectives align with our mission to assure that low-income homeowners, particularly older adults, military veterans, people with disabilities and multi-generational families, live in warmth, safety and independence.

To that end, we are proud to continue our partnership with Ultimate Software to revitalize 3 homes together in September; two in Atlanta and one in Alpharetta. We are also planning to rehabilitate a home in remembrance of September 11th with our wonderful friends at Fannie Mae. And, our fall season of neighborhood rejuvenation wouldn’t be complete without our partnership with CBRE’s annual Day of Service! And, while we continue to seek and develop new partnerships, our work to replace roofs through the H.U.D. Community Development Block grant endures. This year, we will replace more than 25 roofs for homeowners in need. In fact, our work with the City of Atlanta continues to be an important legacy that we leave the Atlanta community year after year.  And, it just so happens that the month of August is ‘What Will Be Your Legacy?’ month.

As we carry on our important work to preserve and revitalize houses and communities in Atlanta through free home repair services, let us all keep an eye on our own legacy and what those who come after us will remember about our efforts. One way to do that is to challenge yourself and those around you to get involved and help others in some way; no matter how big or small. You can do it!

Warm regards,
