MORE THAN 5,400 CBRE EMPLOYEES HAVE HELPED IMPROVE THE LIVES AND HOMES OF THOSE IN NEED ACROSS THE U.S.
Los Angeles, CA., September 8, 2014 /3BL Media/ – CBRE Group, Inc. today announced its fifth-annual “BuildMonth,” the signature event of its Shelter Program, which focuses on providing shelter to individuals in need by improving housing options in low-income communities across the United States. Since its inception, more than 5,400 employees have donated over 40,000 hours of service through the Shelter Program by participating in 130 housing rebuilding projects. This initiative is a cornerstone of CBRE Cares, the company’s corporate philanthropy program.
CBRE’s Shelter Program launched in 2010 during its first BuildMonth, a dedicated month of service encouraging all CBRE employees to participate in rebuilding projects in their local communities. The company holds BuildMonth each year, beginning in September and running through November. More than half of the annual Shelter Program projects are completed during this time.
This year, more than 900 CBRE employees in 32 offices across the United States will volunteer to help rebuild housing in communities across California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Washington, D.C. The company provides employees with paid time off for their participation in these projects.
“Each year, across the country, CBRE employees trade their desk jobs for a day and become painters, plumbers, carpenters and all-around handymen and handywomen to improve housing options for people in need in their communities,” said Cal Frese, CBRE’s Chief Executive Officer, Americas. “Creating real benefit through community outreach is a priority for our company and its employees, and the CBRE Shelter Program allows us to build on that passion by putting our talents and leadership skills to work for the greater good of others.”
During the company’s Shelter Program projects, employees help renovate and refurbish private homes, homeless shelters and other facilities alongside CBRE Cares Shelter Program non-profit partners Rebuilding Together and HomeAid, as well as Habitat for Humanity. These organizations are leaders in working to provide critical home repairs for low-income homeowners, preserve and revitalize affordable homeownership and build and maintain dignified housing for the homeless.
In addition, CBRE continues to incorporate large-scale Shelter Program projects into its philanthropy program. Employees have already pitched in at a Kickoff to Rebuild Super Bowl neighborhood revitalization project in Moonachie, New Jersey, in January; and a renovation effort as part of the CBRE Women’s Networking Forum in Chicago, Illinois, in May.
